Edustaff congratulates Porsche Teller on being named the Higher Education Employee of the Month for February.
Porsche is a clinical adjunct faculty member for Jackson College, where she is known for creating a safe, nurturing environment where nursing students can excel.
Erin Mazur, a professor in the nursing department at the college, nominated Porsche for the award.
“She sets high expectations for her students and gives them the resources to achieve them,” Erin said. “She develops individual improvement plans with defined behaviors and facilitates achievement of the plan while having the adult learner responsible for their learning.”
Students are consistent in their feedback that Porsche challenges them in a constructive, helpful way that pushes them to excel on the clinical unit while connecting the material to real patient care.
Porsche has been working in the position for a little over a year. She enjoys watching her students grow as they develop their nursing skills and get ready to join in the camaraderie of the nursing field.
“If I can help in any way so they are set up for success to be great nurses alongside my colleagues and myself, I’m excited to be able to do that,” she said.
She keeps her expectations for students high so they will get a sense for what nursing will be like in the real world, she said. If she sees an individual student struggling, she will work with the student one-on-one, setting up an individual plan for success. If she notices a lot of students struggling with the same concepts, she creates a set of guidelines to help them understand.
In her free time, Porsche loves to read and do outdoor activities like camping and trail riding with her husband and daughters. “My two daughters are huge into sports, so I spend a lot of my time going to basketball and softball games,” she said.
Congratulations, Porsche!
