Shawnda has been with Edustaff for about six years, and works as an adjunct professor of nursing at Jackson College.
She was nominated for the award by Darlene LoPresto, head of the LPN program at Jackson College.
“Shawnda demonstrates a strong commitment to the Jackson College PNC nursing program and specifically to the personal and professional growth of her nursing students,” Darlene said. “She models professionalism and demonstrates positive characteristics of empathy, dedication, integrity, enthusiasm, respect, compassion, leadership, dependability, and creativity in the clinical setting. Shawnda has been my adjunct consistently for the past 4-5 years and demonstrates loyalty to the Jackson nursing program. I could not do my job without such a dedicated and supportive team members such as Shawnda!”
Darlene recruited Shawnda to work as an adjunct professor after seeing her work as a nurse preceptor in her place of employment. In addition to her work as an adjunct professor, Shawnda still works as a nurse in medical-surgical care.
She loves her work at the college because she enjoys seeing the students’ excitement.
“I love being a nursing instructor because I get to witness those “aha” moments when a student suddenly understands a concept or connects their learning to real patient care. Seeing that spark of confidence and excitement reminds me why I chose nursing and teaching. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I’m helping shape nurses who will make a real difference in people’s lives.”
When she’s not teaching or working at the hospital, Shawnda enjoys swimming and watersports at Bawbeese Lake with her two kids, ages 19 and 13.
“We’re all about the summer life,” she said.
Congratulations, Shawnda, and thanks for your strong commitment to Edustaff and nursing education!
