Edustaff congratulates Erin Goff on being named the Higher Education Employee of the Month for October.
Erin teaches Criminal Justice courses at Glen Oaks Community College, where she first took an adjunct professor position in 2015.
She was nominated by Benjamin Fries, Dean of Career and Applied Sciences at the college.
“What I appreciate most about Erin is that she truly understands the connection between our school and the community. She brings her experiences as a community leader and Deputy County Administrator into her work with our students, helping them understand that what they learn in the classroom has a real impact on the people and communities they will eventually serve,” he said.
“Erin is also someone who looks for ways to make our program better. She has helped us identify other quality adjunct instructors and has worked to bring people with valuable real-world experience into our program. She does this because she genuinely wants our students to have the best educational experience possible.”
Erin has 20 years of experience in public service, including work in counterterrorism analysis, community corrections, jail and prison alternative programming, public safety administration, and emergency management.
Teaching as an adjunct professor came naturally, she said, since she had previously taught at police academies and done other types of training.
She said she loves having an impact on the next generation of people who are going to protect the community.
“I love when I see my former students out working in the field,” she said. “I get very excited when I get to call one of my students a colleague.”
Her former students are now working as state troopers, firefighters, and emergency dispatchers. “I’m really proud every time they are contributing, and it means I am helping to shape that in some way I hope.”
Erin and her husband have two sons, and they enjoy kayaking, hiking and just spending time outdoors as a family. Both sons play baseball, so she also spends a lot of time at the baseball field.
